Gajanan MAHARAJ

Thought of the day !

When Gajanan BABA took samadi -- Shirdi BABA pronounced a great soul departs !

This Article Courtesy of my colleague – Jayesh Govindrao Wairale
Nagpur – Maharashtra - India.

We salute the very dust particles on the Feet of saints. Liberation does not hold any charm to us. Only saints are great. Nothing is greater than them. He is a Bhrahmajnyani, who thinks of saints always. Such a person treats saints as God. He does not think of any other thing.

Saints are gods as it were. Saints are respected all over the world. They are respected in all religions. How do the saints gain this divinity? Saints subdue the inherent enemies viz. lust, anger, greed, ego, hypocrisy and jealousy.

They love all the living creatures in the world. They think of the welfare of all the beings. They are those who have achieved the equilibrium of mind. They always merge in meditation and they meditate on God.

They spend their lives for the benefit of all. Just as God sustains every living being, the saints also protect and nourish every living being. Saints thus are in no way less than gods. Saints are a repository of virtues.

They can be compared with a wish-fulfilling cow or a wish-fulfilling tree. They can be compared with a parisa stone that can convert iron into gold. Saints perform good actions and men get their desires fulfilled.
Saints burn away the dross in the character of men. Saints can inspire the rich to protect the poor. They inspire the wealth and charities are performed. Wells and tanks are dug out and people can get cool drinking water in the summer.

The hungry get food and thus can sustain themselves in drought and famine. The rich erect temples and shelters for the poor and also hospitals and schools. Thus saints themselves can cause a spring to well up. They can turn an infertile land into fertile one. Saints will live in huts but can raise palatial buildings.

A body functions as long as a soul inhabits it. Similarly saints are the souls of the society. A society devoid of saints is bound to destroy itself, may it be anywhere in the world. India abounds in sages. Maharashtra has a galaxy of saints.

Shri Gajanan Maharaj, The saint of Shegaon made his first appearance in Shegaon on 23rd February 1878. He was quite young then. He was seen picking up rice particles from a thrown away leaf plate. He drank water along with cattle and went away. Thereafter he appears lying under the standing horse of Shri Govind Maharaj Taklikar, who was giving a musical discourse in a Shiva temple. Shri Govind Maharaj could know the wisdom of Gajanan

Maharaj, from the words uttered by him. Thereafter, Maharaj became known in and near about Shegaon. Gajanan Maharaj was a siddha and was oblivious of his surroundings. He used to lie anywhere, eat anything, wear any piece of cloth or move naked. Once a woman fed him a ball of half a seer chilies which he ate gladly and drank water. He was unaffected. He used to chant gani gana ganat botey

That is why he came to be known as Gajanan Maharaj. People used to offer him rich clothes, ornaments, money and eatables. He used to discard these things and move away elsewhere. Devotees often felt peaceful in his presence. They used to feel elevated in his presence. Gajanan Maharaj entered in maha samadhi on 8 of September 1910 at 8 A.M., when large crowds were chanting God’s name.

Late Han Kukaji Patil erected a temple on the spot where Gajanan Maharaj left his body. Gajanan Maharaj Institute has been founded and it is conducting various welfare activities.

Shri Ramchandra Krishnaji Patil managed the affairs of the institute from 1913 to 1948. His line continues to manage the affairs of the institute. Shri Dasaganu Maharaj has written the biography of Shri Gajanan Maharaj in an ovi meter.

Pedda Venkama Raju & Easwaramma

Thought of the day !

Travelling to the village Puttarparthi, one arrives to old world charm and the classic experience of a new world panache. The velvet ambience of the Palatial Sai Kulwant Hall, the STAR attraction, the LORD of the Universe, bestows HIS infinite gourmet of Love

The gentle charm of Puttaparthi, the Lord founded some eighty years ago, is and elegant slice for transformation

The hustle bustle in the narrow lanes of Parti, is reminiscence of yesteryear, the passion for adventure highlights the splendour of virgin territory, the land of Bharat Mata.

As the golden sun begins to fade into the horizon, the proud legacy of the Shri Sathya SAI Avatar would glitter for thousands of years.

Bhagwan executes His Karma and Dharma exquisitely. Sai removes the Toxic Karmic Debt and the modern day bacteria from the mind of man.

Amma Naag Nageshwari

Thought of the day !

Shakti Nilayam - Sai Mandir
Lenasia South
South  Africa

Amazing Phenomena -- Divine Mother -- Amma- Naag-Nageshwari.
I visit the Mandir on four or five occasion annually. Bhagwan's Birthday, Guru-Purnim and other celebrations

This changed in September 2007 after my visit to Puttaparthi.
I've pen about this mandir on this blog - August, Sept 2008 and June 2009.

Mariamman prayers associated with the South Indian community, celebrated with colourful ritual and fanfare at the mandir.

First participation would be in 2008.

Their is a Female Statue in  mandir, that begin's to materialise wheat from her abdomen, a week before 10 day prayer commence, magical event for the eyes.

The wheat is used in preparation for prasad on the final day.

This year and extraordinary event occurs, Murti weeps on numerous occasions. Amazingly, the deity physically moved on her own, from the cabinet on to Bhagwans chair.

I visited the Mandir on Sunday 19 2009, to date no individual impersonated the Avatar besides the deity in the mandir, neither has Bhagwan hosted anybody on his chair.
A sumptuous thought roam's my mind staring at the Murti, if she was trying to undermine Bhagwan and display fountainhead of Self-Delight.

Looking at the Divine Mother seated on the chair, is and awe-inspiring experience.
Bhagwan's divine play in the Mandir solidifies the marvels surrounding Mumsie as and individual.

Universe will not comprehend - Shri Sathya Sai Avatars Shakti

Sai Divine Current

Thought of the day !

You must realize that the divine current that flows and functions in every living being is the One Universal Entity. When you desire to enter the Mansion of God, two closed doors confront you:

The desire to Praise yourself and the desire to Defame others.

The doors are bolted by envy and there is also the huge lock of egoism preventing entry. So if you are earnest, you have to resort to the key of LOVE and open the lock.

Then remove the bolt and the doors are wide open. The education you receive must train you to be successful in this difficult operation.

Bhagwan
Divine Discourse, December 25, 1976

Commit to memory recite daily for compounded spiritual abundance !

I am God; I am no different from God.

Sathya SAI Baba TELEPORTATION

Thought of the day !

Shakti Nilayam
Sai Mandir - South Africa

I grew up in the era of Woodstock the world's greatest rock show on earth. Mahatma Nelson Mandela's journey to freedom commences from Robben Island. America lands a man on the moon, milestone in space exploration. Bill Gates Outlook Express enabled us to share our thoughts with the world in seconds.

Sai Mandir discovered Autumn of 1990, through my colleague Bubbles Reddy from Auckland Park - South Africa.

First trip to Puttaparthi 1985 Shivratri day unknowingly
Second trip 2007 Ganesh Chaturdi unknowingly

Third visit to Puttaparthi February 2008, because what Bhagwan displayed Omnipresently, in my colleague's room in 2007.

My curious little intellect inspired me to travel with three people to Prashanti, to examine Fact from Fable and Hallucination from Reality. I want to assure you, Bhagwan did not disappoint, events were mind-boggling.

Darshan was nutritious, food in the canteens was yummy and citizens of Puttaparthi were charismatic. Indian summer discharge its responsibility with lustre.

The mircale book :

Can this be possible what would be the views of the academy of Sciences?
Omniscience-Omnipresence-Omnipotent.

I shared a luxurious interleading room in the ashram with my colleagues. Shan purchased a book titled Sri Sathya Sai Yuga-Avatara from Prashanti bookstore. He must have read five pages and I probably fifteen.

Must confess don't have the discipline of my colleague Shan. One day he exclaimed we bringing Sai Organization in disrepute, Excuse me Sir Shan.

We return home after a glorious pilgrimage to Puttaparthi. I visit Shan after a month at the Mandir, to chat about our memorable moments. He inquired am I enjoying the book, replied what book, he purchased in Prashanti. I told Him don't have your book.

I was sadden his invaluable material possession disappeared in the House of God. We were the only two in the room when we left the ashram. After having and exciting conversation regarding our trip and learning book mislaid, subdued both of us.

We were standing next to Bhagwans chair in the Mandir. Raising my voice staring at Bhagwans photo, Shan paid 170.00 rupees for the book. I know you have it we want it.

Ten days later Shan calls me at 4.45am on a Sunday morning, the day He does Aum Kar and Suprabhatam with much excitement. Book found on Bhagwans feet showered with Kumkum Vibuti. Bhagwan inscribe the following in the book.

Prema Shakti---Love Baba--Bhakthi.

Third teleportation of Bhagwan I am aware of.

Shan's been the recipient of incredible leelas from Bhagwan. I don't have the permission to write about them, the above story comes after much persuasion.

Composing pure LUV in words is and overwhelming task. I try in my ignorance Baba. If I scribe untruths, they are mine/ If one individual may be inspired by your Truth, that's your unconditional Love.

Aum SAI Ram

Swami SAMARTHA

Thought of the day !

My telephonic conversation with Nana Paranjape the Blessed One of Lonavala Maharashtra India, affirms to me Swami Samartha's astral body dwells in the sacred Heart of His devotees !

I asked Nana during my conversation are their Gurus the stature of Akkalkot Maharaj in India. He said spontaneously Sathya SAI Baba and observed silence. I savored amazing peace in the inner core of my being.

This article of courtesy of :
Milind Ravindra Deshmukh from Shree Swami Samarth Vishva Kalayan Kendra

Whenever Dharma has decline in Bharatvarsha, god has come in the form of an Avataar, every time to save devotees and protect them. It is for this purpose that Sri Swami Samarth Maharaj of Akkalkot manifested Himself. He is the most famous Datta Avataar in the Sri Datta Sampradaya,

Who can adequately describe the glorious appearance of Sri Swami Samarth ? All human faculties fail in this attempt, at best one may give a superficial account. Our mortal eyes can seldom hope to even see his glory -- swami appears like a glorious sun.

Sri Swami Samarth’s Appearance: - Sri Swami Samarth is the extension of the fifteenth century incarnation of Lord Dattatraya, namely Sri Narasimha Saraswati. It is mentioned in the holy book “Gurucharitra” that Sri Narasimha Saraswati entered mahasamadhi in Kardalivana (near Shri Shailya) in 1458.

After remaining in mahasamadhi for over 300 years there was a complete transformation in the personality of Sri Narasimha Saraswati. That divinely transformed personality is Sri Swami Samarth. He emerged from an encircling anti-hill because a woodcutter accidentally cut through a tree and hit Sri Swami Samarth. This awakened Him from the prolonged samadhi.

Sri Swami Samarth looked like a Purana Purush -- A Rishi from ancient times.

There was always a “Tilak” on His forehead and his Body would be smeared with sandal paste. He used to wear only a Kaupin (cod piece). He had a fine set of teeth and He wore “Tulsi Mala”necklace and earrings inset with gems.

Sri Swami Samarth was an Avadhoot - A maha Yogi possessing great spiritual powers. He was always muttering mystic ‘Mantras’ or something few could understand. He was an Jnana - Murthi exemplar of wisdom and knowledge. He expressed oneness and kinship with all creations. His merge glance could bless His presence sanctify and His silence a sermon. His touch could trigger spiritual change and transformation would begin.

After emerging of Sri Swami Samarth from the anthill, He traveled all over the country known to people however there are no record to these events
(His active manifestation was for 400 years)

Maharaj had stayed in Mangalwedha (a town near Pandharpur in Sholapur district). He decided to leave for Mahol via Pandharpur. After staying in Mahol for 5 years, Maharaj went to Sholapur and stayed in a corner of Datta mandir (temple). It is said that when Maharaj first came to the Datta Mandir, it was the time for the Maha prasad and the seats were laid. Maharaj went straight in and occupies a front seat.

The person in charge asked Swamiji to get up and sit at the back. Swami Samarth left the temple immediately and went to the adjoining “Muth” where He sat playing like a child near a pillar, A lady was wonder-struck, as she saw Lord Dattatraya in all His divine splendor, where Swamiji was sitting. She prostrated at His feet.

The pillar of Swami appeared as Lord Dattatraya is still venerated. She went and told the priest on the Datta Mandir about her vision .The people in charge of the Datta Mandir subsequently begged to be forgiven

The splendor of Sri Swami Samarth and his glorious mission became more fully manifest, after His arrival in Akkalkot. Sri Swami stay there, for 22 years from 1856 onwards till his Mahasamadhi, Teaching the common man spiritual precepts, Taking them to “POORNATVA” i.e. God. Akkalkot, formerly known as Prajna Puri (town of wisdom), The town gains special significance because of Sri Swami Samarth’s stay.

People of all religions - Muslims, Parsees, Christians and Jews used to come for his darshan. He used to visit mosques and dargas, just as he visits temples and “Muths” (place of spiritual authority). Devotees often found him in various postures and poses; at time sitting under a tree, lying by the riverbank, yet His appearance always commanded respect.

Even those who saw Him for the first time, could recognize His towering spiritual stature. While His face was full of compassion, love and kindness, occasionally He also looked like a fierce lion; the Narasimha Avatar of lord Vishnu.

On the 3rd April 1878, He completed His mission on earth and took Mahasamadhi. His spiritual magnetism has not waned even now, as indicated by the constant flow of thousands of pilligrims to Akkalkot. Those who go there for a Darshan of the samadhi, still feel the subtle power of swamiji.

They feel a definite response to their prayers; Some are cured of their suffering; other find their desire fulfilled. More than that they fill guided onto the right spiritual path. Even though Sri Swami Samarth is no longer in bodily manifestation, He still guides His true devotees and manifest Himself even now !!!!.

Barbara J Mullen

Thought of the day !

Barbara Joy Mullen chance encounter with my blog, HER mail to me.

 Om Sai Ram Dear Max,

Thank you so much for letting me know where to look - I found it! Apparently I had not scrolled down far enough last time.

So, you HAVE been to Puttaparthi! In fact, it seems to me that I have read your story before, it seemed so familiar.

You know, I am a musician and I love to sing old Motown songs and I sing all those LOVE songs to My BEAUTIFUL, COMPASSIONATE, SAI, too! (And I also love jazz, too.)

You have been so blessed to have Darshan of so many great saints. All of mankind at this time is so blessed to be alive when God Him/Herself walks the earth! How blessed are we that our Loving Sathya Sai has called us to His fold! He says none can come to Him except for those whom He calls. Swami has also said that only those who have mastered the Vedas can come to Him. (Not necessarily in this lifetime.)

I was born into a Jewish family, but they were not religious; I was taught the Golden Rule -- to “do unto others as you would have others to do unto you.” I was taught that God is Good, and never to hate. I have had mystical experiences that I remember from the crib on up…

I even remember being brought home from the hospital shortly after I was born in this life. I had an Atmic experience at age 16, though I didn’t know what the term Atma was then, nor the Tao; but both were revealed to me at that time. When I was five, I dreamed I walked up crystal stairs in the sky and reached

God on His throne. And it happened on the physical plane when I ascended the steps of the verandah of Sai Kulwant Hall when my Dear Beloved Sai beckoned me up to Him to give me a special sari.

Previously that afternoon, after our group of almost 500 performed a medley of 22 songs from different spiritual traditions praising God (I played the keyboards for this), my Beautiful Sai Ma rushed down to me in His wheelchair, He spoke to me and allowed me to take Padnamaskar.
I knew He was coming to me (I was 5 rows back). He stared at me the whole time He was on His way to me, His students pushing His wheelchair.

He motioned for His students to “Come0 on, come on!” and rushed right to me, even getting His chair stuck on the red carpet in haste). And before our musical program started, when our Beloved Sathya Sai first came out, I said to Him in my mind, “Yes, Swami, it’s me again!” (though that was my first time to India, it is what I always say when I write to Him). Swami then looked directly at me and gave me a nod, like saying, “Yes, I see you”.

Sooo familiar!!! So on that blessed day that will live on in my memory forever in golden letters, He allowed me to have His Darshan, Sparshan and Sambasham!
He spoke to me in Telugu (which I don’t understand), and He pointed at my keyboard. I stupidly said, “Yes, Baba, that is my keyboard” - as if He didn’t already know…

It was easy to feel “brain-dead” when God “stops” to talk to you, and very softly and in another language, yet. My friend, Ki, said later, “He’s playing you, because He speaks English and he talks loud!” I had to get soooo close to Him to hear Him, I was almost touching His nose!

I just wanted to reach out to Him and give my Beautiful Sai Ma a BIG Hug and a kiss! But I didn’t because I could feel His students getting nervous about that.

The Indian lady behind me told me that Baba said to me, “Where did you get your sari?”, as only a mother would, but also He was confirming that He saved my body (the “sari” - the body - that one casts off at the end of each life) in the car crash I previously mentioned to you.

He was also setting the stage for calling me up to Him to get the special sari a short while later. It was HEAVEN!!! Baba IS my closest relative - my Dear, Sweet Mother AND my Loving Father.

Well, again I went on and on (I really didn’t mean to -it just happened!). It is now 12:15 a.m. here and I am getting sleepy. So I will sign off for now. I was so happy to read your blog.

May You Always Be Blessed,
Barbara Joy Mullen

Adhikari Maharaj

Thought of the day !

My Darshan of Mahatma Adhikari Maharaj.

The name Ayodya is synonymous with the families Maharaj Janak parent of Divine Mother Sita and Maharaj Dashrath, Father of Avatar Ram

Ayodya is home to the tapasya of Adhikari Maharaj this humble splendid soul, Karma Yogi and Atma Gyani.

This article courtesy of devotee.(I have toned the original script)

Maharaja one of India’s great contemporary yogis. His mother died when he was 3 and his father when he was 5 years old. He was a wondering child.

He went to Ayodya as a child obtains Guru mantra in the Ramanandacharya Lineage, at a tender age. He went on to the Himalayas as a child attains enlightenment in His youth.

His favorite deity Lord Rama. When He was submerged in enlightenment He discovered no distinction between Him and Rama and Ant or a blade of grass. When in the Himalayas He spends a year with Bhrama Rishi Devara Baba and finally was appointed Head of the Nirmohi Akhanda, one of the seven of India’s oldest spiritual tradition. This was about 50 years ago.

In the beginning Maharaja was alone in the ashram always God intoxicated unable to control the tears of love. Gradually word spread around of the great PremaYogi and the villages gathered around Him. Soon people were guided from near and far in dreams and were directed to Maharaja for Darshan. The ashram has since grown however Maharaji has never lost touch with reality to speak to devotees individually. Maharaj remains available to all.

“ His motto feed the hungry and help the poor”

Maharaji like some of the Mahatmas I have met delivers and overwhelming presence of peace, many wild animals would come and sit next to Him. Miraculous healing is a regular affair in Maharajis presence and many of his devotees have become self-realized.

When devotees sing His praises He exclaims it is the work of Rama.

Maharajis sadhana is watery so He sits next to a dhuni one of the few that could be burning for several centuries.

Thought of the day !

Seek God and perhaps with some difficulty you may find Him.Seek the DEVIL and He appears instantly !

Sri Ghandikota V. Subba Rao

Thought of the day !

Mahaa Mahima Mannnusha Muriti or Man Of Mighty Miracles

By Sri Ghandikota V. Subba Rao From Sri Sathya Sai Eternal Charioteer 23 November, 1990

Mr. Ghandikota V. Subba Rao has been a devotee of Swami for many years. He served with UNICEF and the United Nations, as head of the Energy Section, for 34 years and took early retirement in 1985 to return to India to be with his 92-year-old father.

Sri Ghandikota
Subrahmanya Sastry, the Rishi of the Sathya Sai Gayathri and a renowned Vedic scholar.

Mr. Subba Rao has been living in Prashanthi Nilayam since 1985, on occasion translating Swami's speeches, giving lectures to overseas devotees, and editing publications of the Sri Sathya Sai Books and Publications Trust.

Encounter With Divinity
My first encounter with the glorious Sai phenomenon goes back to the early sixties. It was sheerly by accident that I ended up on a Mahaa Shivaraathri day at Prasanthi Nilayam on a visit to a very close relative whom I had not met for a long period. The first impact was made by the speech that Swami gave on that occasion, explaining the profound significance of that night of the emergence of the Shiva Linga.

It is an unforgettable experience to watch at very close quarters the emergence of a couple of transparent Shiva lingas from the mouth of Swami. It was another mind-boggling experience to witness at very close quarters a virtual Vibhuthi storm which spread onto the entire stage, covering my clothes too.

The unending flow of sacred ash from an upturned empty vessel, held by Kasturiji over the idol of Shirdi Sai Baba, at the mere turn of a hand of Swami was an extraordinary event.

A couple of days later I was also fortunate to witness a different type of miracle of Swami. A dozen or so young boys were sitting for the investiture of the 'sacred thread', called the Upanayana ceremony, and a prerequisite for this Samskara or 'sacrament' is the piercing of the ears, which normally takes place at a very young age of the child. Several boys did not have pierced ears.

Swami came along, spotted precisely those boys whose ears were not pierced, touched their ear lobes, and lo and behold, there were holes in the lobes. Swami then graciously materialized earrings which He himself inserted in the ear lobes. The highlight of this ceremony was the materialization of the 'sacred threads' by himself.

Swami gave them to the parents of the boys since it is customary for the parents to invest their child with the sacred thread. That Swami is omniscient has been attested to by a number of great scholars. It would suffice here to give two experiences, one in the realm of traditional Vedic lore and the other in the field of modern physical sciences.

Vedic Scholars Humbled
I was once present when some of the most learned Vedic scholars gathered at Prasanthi Nilayam. Two adepts had differences over the complex procedure of the performance of the Vedic 'Soma Yaga' sacrifice as to the exact configuration or arrangement of the sanctified bricks in the construction of the main altar.

They confronted Swami with their respective standpoints and doubts backed up by citations of authoritative Shroutha texts. Apparently even the great ascetic heads of the Math's (monasteries) are themselves not familiar with purely field practices of the elaborate yagnas. They are more familiar with Vedaantic and philosophical subjects than with the details of complex ritual sacrifices. Perhaps these pandits came to test Swami in a remote area of Vedic ritual knowledge.

This is an area of Vedic knowledge which has been the preserve of only a handful of traditionally trained specialized scholars. But to their astonishment Swami specified and demonstrated the correct configuration of the sanctified and ritual place. Swami's procedure did not coincide with the expert view of either of the two pandits. They later checked up their palm-leaf Shroutha texts to confirm that what

Swami had elaborated was exactly the same for that particular sacrifice! The assembled scholars were greatly amazed and some of them returned humbled as well as greatly impressed by Swami's knowledge in the field of Vedic knowledge

Swami's Omniscience
The writer can also provide from his own experience Swami's omniscience in respect of a specialized geo- science matter. Swami once asked me jokingly, I thought, what kind of energy I was dealing with as the Head of the Energy Department of the United Nations in New York.

He wanted me to indicate the various primary sources of energy. Having headed the Energy Department at the world level for over a decade and a half I thought I could answer Swami's question easily. I listed practically all the traditional and modern primary sources of energy. Swami kept repeating there were still other sources. When I came to the end of the list after His many promptings, Swami took over to tell me that I forgot to mention "Geo-pressured energy".

He explained in clear terms, briefly its character, its nature, occurrence, the fact of its being a vast hydraulic source of power deep in the bowels of Earth, with a vast amount of gas dissolved in it in a compressed form as it were. He mentioned that it is a triple source of energy, hydraulic, natural gas and geothermal. Swami's description recalled to me in a flash this frontier source of energy, which is known to only a few specialists in the world and which is yet to be exploited.

Swami Encyclopedia Vedic Knowledge
Swami's knowledge of Vedic learning on one side and on the other modern sciences is indeed astounding, as attested to by a number of scholars and scientists. That Swami is a virtual encyclopedia of Vedic learning has been attested to by my father Sri. Ghandikota Subrahmanya Sastry, a Vedic scholar of repute in Andhra Pradesh.

I remember having once challenged my father, who believed that references to Swami could be traced to the Vedas and that in fact Swami is the embodiment of Vedic knowledge. My father's understanding of the Vedas and devotion to Swami were such that he used to tell me that whenever he listened to Swami's immortal teaching, the corresponding Vedic passage inevitably flashed across his mind. I recall one such incident.

The postman had just delivered that month's Sanathana Sarathi in Telugu. I immediately opened it and asked my father to convince me right then and there that whatever Swami spoke is Vedic in origin. He took up the challenge with a smile, right then and there, and immediately gave me sentence by sentence the exact Vedic quotes corresponding to Swami's words. I was flabbergasted by this evidence of Swami's encyclopedic Vedic knowledge.

Miracle Cures
The writer has experienced in his family numerous extraordinary miraculous cures performed by Swami, over a long span of association with the Sai phenomenon. The most astounding medical miracle of Swami was in respect of my third son, who suffered from intense fever and pains due to the perforation of the ileum at the end of the small intestine.

Over a period of seven months, when he was hospitalized several times as emergencies, he was attended by eminent specialists in three New York hospitals. He was subsisting only on semi solids and non-fibrous "baby foods". The specialists in New York could not cure him, recommended major surgery and said the young man would have to wear a permanent pouch. At this stage we decided to fly to Swami at Brindavan.

We were waiting for a long time under the Sai Ram shed. Swami amazingly came straight to us and called us inside for an interview. He materialized Vibhuthi which He himself put in the mouth of my son, and swept his soft divine hand over the abdomen.

Then Swami declared that the boy was cured as of that moment and could eat spicy hot Andhra food to his heart's content. Hail to Swami's glory! That same evening, which happened to be Christmas eve 1977, Swami gave a dinner to all the foreign devotees, to which He invited us too.

I cautioned my son not to start eating the feast spread before us. We had brought from New York his special foods including water for his drinking use. But he wisely ignored my warning, literally took courage in his hand and ate the food to his heart's content, as Swami had said. We returned to New York and the doctor there was astonished and called it an unbelievable medical miracle.

Impossible Made Possible
That Swami can make the impossible possible is illustrated by the miraculous birth of my first grandson. For seventeen years my eldest son's family continued to be childless. Eminent doctors in United States diagnosed it to be a near impossible situation for the couple to have children. My son and daughter-in-law came unannounced to meet me in Brindavan, Swami's ashram in Bangalore.

Swami spotted them among the hundreds gathered there for darshan. He came into Trayee Brindavan (Swami's residence) and surprised me by telling me that my son and daughter-in-law had just arrived. He asked me to fetch them in for a joint interview.

When the couple prostrated at His feet He blessed them, materialized a special type of finely granular, very fragrant holy Vibhuthi, and declared before me and later with several other devotees that Sathya Sai was now guaranteeing the birth of a Vamsha Vardhan (upholder of the lineage) in the Ghandikota family. He instructed my son that he should inform me as soon as the pregnancy of my daughter-in-law was confirmed after a few months.

One day when I was sitting on the verandah of the Prasanthi Nilayam Mandir, a cable from my son in the United States was delivered to me stating that the doctors twice confirmed the pregnancy of my daughter-in- law. I immediately showed the cable to Swami and remarked that I believed that the pregnancy was due to Swami's grace.

Swami quickly retorted in the hearing of the people in the verandah: "'It is not at all a question of your belief. When Sathya Sai guaranteed a few months before, that a grandson would be born, it would have to...". I then realized that my words to Swami should have been phrased better!

Just a day prior to the birth of our grandson, Swami chided my wife for sitting around when we should be at New York helping in the delivery of our first grandson! He then materialized crystal sugar candy, instructing my wife that the candy should be put in the mouth of my daughter-in-law when the first labor pains started.

It was a near miracle that we could leave for Bombay in the evening, arriving the next day at Kennedy airport in New York, to be received by our son and the pregnant daughter-in-law. That same night the first labor pain started and the sugar candy was given to my daughter-in-law. A son was born in the night - a comfortable and a normal delivery. Within 12 hours of the birth, Swami sent a telephonic message to me that we should name the boy Jayavardhan, our first grandson in the family.

Divine Powers
In our country we consider Lord Rama as Maaya Maanusha Murthi - the embodiment of Maaya, concealing his divine identity. We call Lord Krishna as Leela Maanusha Murthi - the embodiment of divine play and drama. What should we call the present visible divine incarnation of Sri Sathya Sai, having witnessed nearly over a quarter century unending, undepleted, astounding miracles of Swami?

I have come to the conclusion that it would be appropriate to call Him as truly a Mahaa Mahima Maanusha Murthi- the embodiment of limitless plethora of powers and Grace out of His boundless love for His children.

Mr.James Sinclair

Thought of the day !

A compelling Read

The manner in which James Sinclair of America became a devotee of Sai makes a thrilling story. Sinclair had never heard of Baba but he had a deep yearning for God in his heart; that was enough. For the rest of the story, we turn to Sinclair himself:

I will tell you of an event that at that time seemed shocking but would take 30 years to become fully clear. It has to be kept in mind that neither I nor my wife at that time had any understanding or inclination towards Eastern tradition or philosophies.

In 1964, just a short while after our marriage, my wife and I accepted an invitation to stay at a friend's woodland cottage. As we were going to sleep, I saw an old man standing over my bed in the moonlight. My feeling was not one of fear but rather like one has while a mother is looking at her son. The old man then turned and walked across the room and through the wall!

Just then, my wife said in a loud voice, "Jim, are you awake?" She screamed since she was watching the old man as he walked through the wall. We had never seen anything like that in our life and were shaken by the experience.

I began to meditate twice a day. I had an interesting experience. My meditation was on the light from a candle. Every time I started my meditation looking at the candle flame, I saw a little fellow in the flame wearing an orange robe with a great shock of black hair. Then I would transcend thought.

I also began to have the same dream every single night. It went on for years. I saw myself walking up a hill, led by three men in the darkness of night. One was an old man in white. One looked somewhat like Jesus Christ. The one in the middle had an orange robe. This dream occurred night after night for years.

At that time, I had no knowledge of Shirdi Sai Baba or Sathya Sai Baba. For that matter I had no idea of any Avatar and did not know what the word meant.

I was walking from the lavatory in the night. You know how you get a feeling someone is there. I did. I turned around and there He was. I hadn't the slightest idea who He was. This handsome figure dressed in a long orange robe, with a shock of hair you wouldn't believe, was in my hallway, looking at me silently. I nearly jumped out of my skin. As fast I had seen Him, He was gone. Well, it happened a second time.

Not too much later, I was in my meditation room, and this same figure was standing when I came out of meditation. I rubbed my eyes. He was still there. He motioned as if I was to do something with His Feet. I knelt down and touched His Feet. As I looked up, He was no longer there.

Off I went to the fort of spiritual knowledge in New York City, Samuel Weiser's bookstore. I approached the clerk. He asked if he could help me. I said, 'I certainly hope so.' I described my visitor, of course without giving details of the visit. I wanted to know if there was any book about someone who looked like the description of my visitor. He said, 'One moment. I will be right back.' He returned and handed a packet of whitish grey powder and a book titled “Holy Man and the Psychiatrist” written by a doctor [this book is by Dr. Sandweiss].

The salesman told me that he himself was a devotee of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Was I in for a surprise when I recognized that the recurring dream had been of Shirdi Sai, Sathya Sai, and Prema Sai walking up the hill night after night for many years? The figure in the flame was also Him.

On my 1st visit to Prashanti Nilayam, which is a story in itself, I was granted an Interview with Baba. As I entered the room, He said, "All I have given you, and you have never been happy one moment in your life. I came to you twice. Would you do something for Swami?" My answer was, of course, yes.

Swami went on, "BE HAPPY".

In the 1994 Interview, Swami said to my wife and myself, "I came to you 30 years ago". He said it right out of the blue. 1964 was the year when we had the experience in the woodland cabin with the figure of the old man in white. That was indeed 30 years ago.

PS: Mr. James D. Sinclair, a reputed businessman, made a very big mark for himself in the field of mineral prospecting. After having acquired his degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business, Mr. Sinclair, in the year 1975, set up the Sinclair group of companies for which he became the President and the CEO.

Thereafter, he established, in 1981, the James D. Sinclair Financial Research Institute, where he became the Chairman and the CEO.

Later on his interest increased in the field of television and telecommunications, wherein he became the founding partner of the company Cross Country Cable TV. Then became the Chairman and the Executive Officer of the Tanzanian American Development Corporation.

Bhagwan Sai's Pearls

Thought of the day !

Bhagwan BABA'S Pearls

Mathru Devo Bhava, Pithru Devo Bhava (Revere your mother and father as God). You must understand that parents are verily God. If you make your parents happy, the whole world will be happy. It is meaningless to worship God without revering one's own parents. First of all, offer worship to your mother as she is the one who has given you birth. It is because of the nobility of the mother that the children attain good fortune. The parents have given you their blood, their wealth and have brought you up with great love and care, sparing no pains. So, you must love your parents and be grateful to them. That is true Bhakti (devotion). There is no greater Bhakti than this.

To cultivate crops and reap rich harvest, the farmer clears the field of thorny plants and bushes, ploughs it, water it, sows select seeds, plucks out the weeds, fences it, sprays the crops with insecticides and finally, after undergoing all the struggles, reaps the harvest. To reap the harvest of precious joy in your heart, you too must remove the thorns and bushes of lust, anger, greed and envy. You must uproot them and remove them completely from your heart. The farmer does not allow the land to lie fallow. Similarly, through continuous good work, you must plough the field of your heart and fill the field with the water of Love. Select the special seed of your beloved Lord's Name and sow it in the field of your heart. Take discipline as the fence that will guard the crop from the cows and spray virtue as the pesticide. In this manner, foste r the field of your heart with great care and in due course, you can bring home the precious harvest of bliss (Ananda).
Divine Discourse, Mar 26, 1965.

Life has been bestowed to us not for just eating and digesting, roaming and reclining. It is gifted to us for a greater purpose - to realise the Divinity within us, around us and even beyond all things that strike our senses. To waste life in vain pursuits and in sense-pleasures is not the sign of an intelligent person. Deserve the Grace of the Lord by helping the weak and the poor, the diseased and the disabled, the distressed and the downtrodden. Do not laugh at anyone or take delight in insulting or in carrying tales demeaning others. There is no more heinous sin than hurting the feeling of others. You must develop two key qualities - fear of sin and deep devotion to God.
Divine Discourse, Jan 28, 1975.

The eye, the hands, the nose, the head and stomach, each look different and do one special task. Every organ has a different name and function; but they all serve the interest of one body to which they belong. They do not work at cross-purposes, do they? So too, each one of you is a limb in the body called the society. Do your work, without a murmur. Work in full co-operation with all. Then the society can be healthy and happy. Love, Love alone, can bind you to others and to God. God is the very embodiment of love.
Divine Discourse, Jan 28, 1975.

It may take several lives for you to prove that you know what is best for yourself, when you will be able to chalk your own future without harming yourself or others, and are aware of all pitfalls on the way. It is best to trust the experience of the sages, who were filled with compassion, and who were moved by that compassion to illumine the path of liberation. This experience is enshrined in the Vedas. Faith in the Vedas irrigates the heart and makes it yield the harvest of universal love.
Divine Discourse January 28, 1975.

Devotion to God is not to be calculated on the basis of the institutions one has started or helped, the temples that one has built or renovated, the donations one has given away, nor the number of times that one has written or recited the Name of the Lord. These are not vital at all, not even secondary. Devotion is Divine Love, unsullied by any tinge of desire for the benefit that flows from it, or the fruit of the action, or the consequence of that love. It is love that knows no particular season or reason. Its nature is such as the love of the soul for the Divine, the river for the sea, the creeper for the tree, the star for the sky, and the spring for the cliff down which it flows. It is sweet, in bad times as well as in good.
Divine Discourse, Feb 25, 1964

Your habits must change for the better. Your outlook must widen; your inward look must become deeper and more steady. You must realize the Omnipresence of God, and the Oneness of the Humanity. You must learn tolerance and patience, charity and service. You must determine to seek the higher, the richer and the more real experience of God-realization. I bless you that you may form that determination and striving step-by-step, achieve that Goal.
Divine Discourse, Feb 28, 1964.

Instead of saying a hundred things, it is better to do one thing properly. Sanctify your life by doing selfless work. For the person who talks a lot, there is no time for work. For the person who is engaged in work, there is no time to talk. Instead of wasting time in your words, use your time in service to mankind, which is service to God, all the while repeating the Name of the Lord.
Divine Discourse, Mar 31, 1975
